Karate
LOCATION: Phoenix Prep. School - Saturday February 23, 2008. Registration at the door
begins at 9:00am – competition starts promptly at 10:00am.
(735 East Fillmore St. Phoenix).
IN ADDITION: ALL Competitors qualify for the State Games of the West Championships
in Colorado Springs, Colorado on July 24-27, 2008. Eight thousand athletes from thirteen
Western States, competing for State pride & medals, are expected at venues such as the US
Air Force Academy & the US Olympic Training Center.
ENTRY FEE: $40 for Kata, Kumite and Kobudo, or $35 for Kata & Kumite. $35 for Team Events.
ENTRY DEADLINE: Early registration (postmarked on or before) Saturday February
9, 2008. Onsite entries will be accepted until 10am.
DIVISIONS: Divisions may be adjusted to serve all competitors: children, youth – adults, men – women,
beginning, intermediate, advanced and black belt competitors. In addition to filling out the state games
entry form, a tournament entry form will be required with a more complete breakdown of divisions.
KATA/KUMITE/KOBUDO: All competitors must wear a clean white Karate uniform (GI). All competitors
must have their own kumite (free-sparring) equipment which includes a mouthpiece, a set of hand pads,
and males must wear a protective supportive cup.
RULES: This Traditional Japanese/Okinawan Karate tournament will be using the 3-point (Shobu Sanbon) Rules.

The top finisher (gold medal winner) in the Winter Games in each division will be awarded free entry into
that sport if offered in the International Summer Games.
