PLEASE NOTE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES TO PREVIOUS GCSG
SWIMMING COMPETITIONS:
1. DATE MOVED FROM MID-JUNE TO END OF JULY,
NOW ONE WEEK AFTER BOTH ARIZONA SWIMMING STATE
AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS AND MOST RECREATION LEAGUE
CHAMPIONSHIPS AROUND STATE.
2. CHANGE FROM 25 YARD POOL TO 50 METER OLYMPIC-STYLE POOL
(EVENTS FOR AGE 8 & YOUNGER STILL IN 25 YARD POOL)
LOCATION: Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Mona Plummer Aquatic Complex –
ASU Campus.
HOTEL INFORMATION: For Summer Games accommodations in Phoenix, please
contact the official Hotel of the GCSG, the Doubletree Guest Suites Phoenix for a
special Summer Games room rate. Please call 602-225-0500 for details.
ENTRY FEES: Youth: one event, $14; two events, $18; 3-5 events, $20
(maximum of 5 swims total, wherever done). Adults: up to 5 events, $22.
ENTRY DEADLINE: Entry deadline (submitted on or before) July 26, 2011. Any later entry will be accepted
only with Commissioners' approval and a $10 late fee. ABSOLUTELY NO ENTRIES ACCEPTED THE DAY OF
THE MEET!! Heat and lane assignments available on day of competition.
AWARDS: Special Grand Canyon State Games medals, with neck ribbons, for top three event finisher in each division in each age-group.
COMPETITION IN THREE DIVISIONS:
(Maximum of 5 swims total per athlete; alternating female / male of same events)
• Recreation - Athletes 18 or younger, not training at a USA Swimming club or competing in a USA
Swimming meet after 3-15-11
• Open Any athlete 18 or younger, regardless of whether a USA swimming participant or not.
• Adult - Any athlete 19 or older, regardless of whether registered (i.e. USA Swimming, USMS, etc.) or
THREE COMPETITION SESSIONS:
Session 1: 25 Yard pool.
Ages: 6 & Under; 8 & Under (6 & Under may also enter 8 & Under events, up to
5 event limit).
Warm-up: 7:00 a.m. Start, 8:00 a.m.
Event order: 8 & Under: 100y Free, 6 & Under 50y
Free, 8 & Under: 50 Back; 6 & Under: 25 Back; 8 & Under: 50 Breast; 6 & Under: 25 Breast; 8 & Under: 50
Fly; 6 & Under: 25 Fly; 8 & Under: 50 Free; 6 & Under: 25 Free, 8 & Under: 100y Individual. Medley ("IM").
Awards at end of session, for both Recreation and Open divisions.
Session 2: 50 Meter pool;
Ages: 10 & Under: 11-12; 13-14; 15-18 (8 & Under, 6 & Under may also enter
10 & Under events, subject to 5 event day total limit ). Start: At end of Session 1 awards, no sooner than
10:00 a.m.
Warm-up: All during Session 1; time 50 Meter pool available tbd, per other a.m. user;
Event order: 100 M Free, 10 & Under: 11-12, 13-14, 15-18; 50 M Back, 10 & Under: 11-12; 100 M Back,
13-14, 15-18; 50 M Breast, 10 & Under, 11-12; 100 M Breast, 13-14, 15-18; 50 M Fly, 10 & Under: 11-12; 100
M Fly, 13-14, 15-18; 50 M Free, 10 & Under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18; 200 M IM, 10 & Under: 11-12, 13-14, 15-18.
Sessions 1 and 2 shall each have both Recreation and Open events; athletes eligible for Recreation may
enter some Open events, still subject to 5 TOTAL SWIM PER DAY LIMIT
Session 3: 50 Meter pool; Adults Age Groups: 19-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54;
55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75+
SWIMMING UNDER THE STARS,
Warm-up: 6:00 p.m.
Start: 7:00 p.m.
Event order: 100 M Breast, 200
M Free, 100 M Back, 50 M Free, 200 M Fly, 50 M Breast, 200 M Back, 100 M Fly, 200 M Individual Medley,
50 M Back, 200 M Breast, 100 M Free, 50 M Fly, 400 M Free (All age groups will be seeded together by time
but have separate awards recognition).
· All events to be SEEDED BY TIME, with AWARDS given BY DIVISION and AGE GROUP.
· USA Swimming rules will apply to Sessions 1 and 2; USMS rules will apply to Session 3
· USA Swimming APPROVAL and USMS RECOGNITION will be sought to allow times achieved in
GRAND CANYON STATE GAMES to be available for use in competitions within those organizations
· No affiliations with any swimming governing body is required for participation in GCSG, though USMS
athletes must provide a copy of their USMS registration number if they wish their times to be recognized
· Age on competition date sets swimmer's age group
· Swimmers should enter with a SHORT COURSE (25 yard pool) time for each event, if possible. If
the swimmer has no time, enter as NO TIME Event entries without times will be seeded as NO TIME.
"The State Games of America ("SGA") is being held Aug 4-7 in San Diego, California. SGA entry information may be found at www.StateGames2011.com & SGA requires proof of registration in GCSG competition to accept your entry. They will make this exception only because their deadline is July 15, which is before our 7-30-11 competition date. SGA has agreed to conditionally accept all entries from Arizona swimmers, to be validated by a registration list compiled by GCSG and provided to SGA before their competition."
