What ARE the Grand Canyon State Games?
The Grand Canyon State Games is a multi-sport Olympic Festival for Arizona's amateur athletes of all ages and abilities. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is the honorary chairperson of the Grand Canyon State Games. The Games is a project of the Arizona Sports Council and is affiliated with 47 other states throughout the United States. The Grand Canyon State Games is designed to give all Arizonans the opportunity to take part in athletic competition with an Olympic-style atmosphere. 2011 will be the 19th year for the Games, to be held June 17-19, 2011 in Maricopa County in 30 sports.
Who Is Eligible To Compete?
A participant must be a resident of Arizona for at least 30 days immediately prior to the first day of competition. College students and military personnel who usually reside in Arizona or attend an Arizona school just prior to the Games are eligible to enter. Age and skill level requirements are established by each sport's governing body or commissioner. Unless otherwise stated under individual sport listings, the age determining date will be the day prior to competition.
Awards
Olympic-style gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in all sports in each division.
How To Enter the Summer games

2. Read all of the general information at our website.
3. Read the specific sport information for complete event information.
4. If you prefer you may download our Entry form. Then fill out the Registration Form for the International Summer Games. For team sports, the coach or team captain fills out the form (including team roster) for the entire team. For individual sports, each person competing must fill out a separate form.
5. Sign the waiver. For team sports, each participant must sign. All participants under 18 must have their
parent or guardian sign for them.
6. Payment. If paying entry fees by MasterCard, Visa, or Discover only, fax your form to 480-517-9739.
You may also make payment by personal check or a cashier's check made payable to "Grand Canyon
State Games." Please do not send cash.

A confirmation letter with specific sport information will be sent prior to the weekend of the Games.
Entering More Than One Sport
Due to the competitive format and the possibility of overlapping schedules, entering more than one sport is discouraged. If you enter more than one sport, you do so at your own risk. No refunds will be given and no schedule changes will be made to accommodate multi-sport entrants.
THE POWERADE Power PLAYER AWARD
The Powerade Power Player Award is given to select individuals who demonstrate exceptional character
and sportsmanship as a participant in the 2011 Grand Canyon State Games. Select athletes who display
extraordinary character as defined by the Six Pillars of Character -- Trustworthiness, Respect,
Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship -- will be identified by Games officials for consideration. The
Power Player Award will be presented to recipients during the awards ceremonies.
SPORTSMANSHIP/CONDUCT
Unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of competitors or fans will not be condoned by Grand Canyon State
Games officials. Conduct of this nature may result in immediate removal and disqualification from competition.
Inclement Weather
Sports using outdoor facilities are weather dependent. Competitions will be conducted unless the commissioners,
facilities managers or Grand Canyon State Games staff determine the weather conditions to be potentially
dangerous, life threatening, or if playing fields would incur significant damage. There will be no cash refunds for
cancelled
events due to weather.
Refund Policy
No refund will be permitted because an entrant fails to compete. There will be no refunds of entry fees
except for the following:
1. Entries received after the maximum number of individuals or teams are bracketed or if not enough
teams or individuals enter a division.
2. Entries of non-qualified participants.
Volunteers
In 2012, the Grand Canyon State Games is planning for dramatic growth. As awareness and interest
in
the Games grow rapidly in its 19th year, volunteers are a critical part of the success
of the State Games. If
you are interested in participating as a volunteer, please call the Games office at (480) 517-9700‚ or check
out our website at http://www.gcsg.org. Because the Grand Canyon State Games is such a grassroots,
family-oriented movement, we encourage participation by the whole family. If you would like to share in
an Olympic-style sports festival, become a Volunteer for the Grand Canyon State Games.
