FORMAT:

 

The 2010 Arizona Summer State High School Basketball Championships will be changing this year to an open format. Any AIA Boys and Girls Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshman Basketball Teams may simply submit an entry form and fee and be guaranteed a spot and chance to become the 2010 Summer State Champions. Teams that participate in one or more of High School Spring Summer Leagues, Tournaments, or University Team camps can use those events to improve their seeding in their respective division. Teams that enter must be coached by their regular winter season AIA High School coaches or a designated school coach or staff member with written permission from the Head Coach or Athletic Director.


DATE AND LOCATION:

 

The 2010 Arizona Summer State High School Basketball Championships will be held June 28-July 1, 2010 with all three Boys Divisions (Varsity, JV, and Freshman) playing at Skyline (Mesa) High School. All three Girls Divisions (Varsity, JV and Freshman) will be played at Southwestern College and other sites as needed.
TOURNAMENT BENEFITS:

 

Each division (Varsity, JV and Freshman) for both Boys and Girls will be run as a single elimination “Old School Indiana all school sizes divisions” style tournament where one State Champion will be crowned at the conclusion of this four day event.
• AIA officials will be provided by Don Logan
• Champions in each division will be awards Gold Medals, Silver Medals to the runner ups and Bronze Medals to all semifinals participants.


ENTRY FEES & DEADLINE:

 

Entry forms and the early entry fee of $75/per team must be paid prior to June 1, 2010 to guarantee a spot in the State Championship for each qualifier and cover the cost of officials and game staff. Registration will remain open after June 1 until June 21st for the entry fee of $100/per team. Teams requesting admission to the tournament after the June 21st date are up to the discretion of the tournament committee and Grand Canyon State Games Executive Director and on an available only basis. Income generated from this State Championship goes directly to support the Arizona Basketball Coaches Association.

RULES:


The GCSG-ABCA 2010 Arizona Summer State Basketball Championships will use regular AIA rules with modification. Teams entered in this Championship will be provided a set of game rules and modifications used for this tournament prior to the event.


AGE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Varsity-All varsity players must have at least one year of AIA varsity eligibility remaining to participate. No graduated players may participate.
  2. JV-No seniors may play in the JV Division.
  3. Freshman-No sophomores may play in the Freshman Division.
  4. Players may play up and in two different divisions (Varsity, JV and Freshman) if they meet the eligibility requirements listed here.
  5. No provision will be made in the bracketing to accommodate teams that play players in two divisions.
  6. Each participating team will be required to submit an entry roster by June 24th, 2010 signed by the teams Head Coach. An extension for submitting a roster and entry paperwork will be granted on roster submission to teams that qualify after June 25th and prior to the final seeding June 27th. Any eligibility violations will be subject to immediate removal from the tournament and forfeiture of games, and a one year ban from next year’s tournament.
  7. All teams must submit their entry fee and roster paperwork prior to being officially entered in the Championship and officially bracketed June 24th.
  8. All questions of eligibility will be handled and at the sole discretion of the Executive Director of the Grand Canyon State Games based upon recommendations of the ABCA Executive Board and GCSG Basketball Commissioner.

 

NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES


All participating schools and teams will be notified immediately upon release of the brackets June 24th of their first tournament game time to be played on June 25th.
